The recent heat wave has warmed the water and has our SUP and Fitness Instructors ready for some yoga and fitness on the water. This year we will be offering several sessions each week led by different instructors.
Sessions will start soon, you can BYOB (bring your own board) or use Surf Reston equipment. If you would like to be placed on our "first alert" email for these sessions please email email@example.com.

For the advanced practitioner, SUP Yoga will help you take your practice to the next level. Beginner and advanced poses will be demonstrated by Nicole so that you can practice on your own level.
Are you ready to take your fitness to the next level? With Prajna Fitness’, SUP fitness classes Nicole will help you push your body to the next level. We didn't even think to promote our SUP sessions for special celebrations like an Anniversary or Birthday Party! A big thanks to our clients for their creative thinking - we had a blast helping them celebrate and joining in on the fun! These two sessions last week proved that we can really deliver a unique experience for your special occasion!
becky and matt anniversary on the water!
When Becky contacted us to schedule a SUP session on her Anniversary we hadn't planned to paddle on Tuesday evening. We quickly changed our schedule to accommodate her and Matt's 8th Anniversary. The couple was listening to the USA soccer match in their car right up to the start of the session. We were able to paddle down to Lake Anne Plaza where they went into Kalypso's Sports Tavern to check on the score. Unfortunately USA took the loss . . . fortunately they had the rest of the night to paddle on Lake Anne!
happy birthday Miguel!
What does every 13 year old want for his birthday party? Laser Tag . . . Paintball . . . Kings Dominion? How about a SUP Birthday Party!
Miguel and his family tried paddle boarding for the first time last year on a vacation to Maine. He had been talking about it ever since. When his dad contacted us - we thought it would be a great idea! Miguel's sister Rita and friends Joshua and Eric gave our equipment a serious workout and perfected some amazing SUP tricks (most by accident!)
We love the entry the Wendy Hahn wrote on her Off the Page Blog about her families experience paddling with Surf Reston!
My kids are ridiculously athletic. Me, not so much…
Aside: Twenty years ago, my then-boyfriend, now-husband didn’t believe that I couldn’t ride a bike. While visiting his family in Wisconsin, he insisted that I borrow his sister’s bike for a spin around the neighborhood. I can “ride” in the sense that I can balance and push the pedals with my feet, so he was probably feeling quite smug as we coasted down his parents’ cul de sac onto a neighborhood street. He was likely basking in his victory when we turned left onto a street that actually connected to a street with real traffic. What he didn’t understand is that my brain freezes up when I am on a bike. When he hollered from behind that I should hang a left into the strip mall, he did not instruct me to yield to the on-coming car. Luckily, the car came to a dead stop; I did not.
I’m the only member of the family who doesn’t own a bike. It’s better that way. However, I do occasionally feel guilty about this parental shortcoming, which might explain why I suggested Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) as a family activity.
In addition to a full day of sessions on Sunday at Lake Anne, a group of friends put together an informal paddle board race on Lake Thoreau! This is the type of community building story we love to hear about.
Meanwhile at Lake Anne we had some fantastic weather, low winds and great paddling. Below are a few of my favorite shots.
Check out Ami Dodd and Glenn Payne taking their Acro Yoga moves to the water for the first time! It's going to fun to see how they do with a little practice!
This Father's Day we did two sessions at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. which got me back to my house for a nice celebration with my family at 1 p.m. Nearly everyone who booked a session asked, "are you sure you want to spend your Father's Day doing this?"
I look forward to these sessions every week and it was the perfect way to kick off Father's Day - both sessions were surprise Father's Day gifts from family members and I definitely get "energy" introducing folks to a sport I love in our great community.
Best of all I finished the day paddling with my daughter Ashley (pictured below) and some friends on Lake Audubon!
Stand up paddle boarding is truly a family activity that can be enjoyed by kids of all ages.
