The idea of providing Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) lessons on the fantastic lakes in Reston was just a dream for Chris Higgins in Fall 2012 when he reached out to Reston Association. Although its taken more turns than he or anyone would have imagined we officially kicked things off this weekend!
First up was a SUP training session for Life Guards on Friday evening and inspecting the course for the annual Jim ODonnell Lake Swim.
Saturday morning followed with us providing lifesaving support at the clinic and practice swim. With many first-time open water swimmers at this event we were busy providing support and assistance. After the swim we provided some of the volunteers with a brief introduction to SUP.
On Sunday we were on hand providing support to the 1 and 2 mile swims. On land, we had lots of visitors stopping by the Surf Reston trailer inquiring about our schedule and operations. Take a peek at the photo gallery below to see us in action!
After the Lake Swim on Sunday, we headed over the Lake Anne for our first official session of the season. Long-time Reston residents, the Miller family enjoyed a great paddle around the lake. They treated their out of town guests from South America to a truly unique experience.Take a peek at some photos of our journey.
